Pakistani Muslim matchmaking events

For British Pakistani men and women looking for marriage, in rooms where the cultural expectations do not have to be explained from scratch. Everyone present applied first, was read by a person, and was matched against the rest of the list before an invitation went out.

Why a Pakistani event, and not just an open one

Most people who come to us have already been through the rishta process. Aunties, family friends, a cousin who knows someone in Bradford. It works for some. For many it stalls, and the reason is usually the same: the pool is whoever your family happens to know, and it runs out.

These evenings widen the pool without changing the terms. You are still meeting people who understand what a biradari expectation is, why your mother needs to meet someone before you do, and what it means when a family says they want to “take it forward properly”. Nobody has to translate any of that.

The practical difference is that the introductions are structured. You are not working a room hoping to find someone suitable. You have been matched before you arrive, and you sit down with the people the matching produced.

Families are part of this, not an obstacle

A guardian may accompany any female guest – one per guest. Guardians wait in a separate lounge with refreshments and are welcome to join at the end. Tell us on the application form if you are bringing someone, so we plan the room accordingly.

Plenty of guests come having already told their parents. Plenty have not. Both are normal, and neither changes how your application is read.

Who is usually in the room

Where people come from

  • Birmingham and the West Midlands
  • Bradford, Leeds and West Yorkshire
  • Manchester and the North West
  • London and the South East
  • Glasgow, Luton, Nottingham and elsewhere

Backgrounds

  • British-born, second and third generation
  • Punjabi, Mirpuri, Pathan and Sindhi families
  • Urdu speakers, English speakers, and both
  • People who moved to the UK to study or work
  • Divorced and widowed guests, welcomed openly

What people are looking for

  • Marriage, within a reasonable timeframe
  • Someone whose practice is close to their own
  • A family that will get on with their family
  • To be met as a person, not as a CV

How the evening runs

  • You apply. The form takes about ten minutes. It asks about your practice, your family, your work, and what you are looking for.
  • A person reads it. Not a filter. Someone reads what you wrote, including the free-text box.
  • Matching runs once. When registration closes, compatibility is checked across the whole list at once – age, location, practice, education, profession and your stated preferences.
  • Invitations go out. If a place is offered, the venue and timings arrive by email. Places are limited, and the numbers are kept even.
  • On the night. Structured introductions, a supervisor present throughout, and nobody’s contact details shared without their say-so.

Questions about these events

Do I have to be Pakistani to apply?

These evenings are built around the Pakistani community, and that is who most of the room will be. If you are from another background but your family circumstances and expectations line up, say so in the free-text box on the form and it will be read. We also run general events that are open to everyone.

My parents want to be involved. Is that a problem?

No. One guardian may come with each female guest, and many do. If your family want to know how the evening works before they agree, send them to the questions page or ask us directly – a person will answer.

Is this a dating event?

No. It is for marriage. Introductions are supervised, the setting is respectful, and nobody is expected to exchange numbers on the night. If two people want to take it further, that happens through the proper channels afterwards.

I am divorced. Will that count against me?

No. Divorced and widowed guests apply to every event we run, and are matched on the same criteria as everyone else. Several people in any given room will be in the same position.

Will anyone in my community find out I applied?

Your application is read by the team and nobody else. Nothing about you is published, and no list of attendees is circulated. Guests meet each other on the night; that is the only point at which anyone sees who else applied.

No Pakistani date open yet?
