Turkish Muslim matchmaking events

For Turkish, Turkish Cypriot and Kurdish Muslims in England looking for marriage. A community concentrated in a few London boroughs and thinly spread everywhere else – so the introductions are made properly rather than left to chance.

Everyone knows everyone, or nobody at all

If you are in Haringey, Enfield or Hackney, the Turkish community is close enough that the same names come up repeatedly and privacy becomes the concern. If you are anywhere else in the country, the opposite is true – there may be a handful of Turkish Muslim families within an hour of you, and none of them have anyone your age.

Both problems have the same answer. Applications are read privately and no attendee list is ever circulated, so nobody learns you were looking. And the room draws from the whole country, not from one postcode, so it is not the same faces again.

The other thing we hear often: families looking back to Turkey for a match, and the person themselves wanting someone who understands life here. These evenings are for people settled in England who want to marry someone in the same position.

Practice varies, and that is accounted for

This community covers a wide range – from families where practice is central to daily life to those where it is quieter. The form asks where you actually are, not where you feel you ought to be, and matching works from the honest answer. Nobody is scored on it.

Who is usually in the room

Backgrounds

  • Mainland Turkish families
  • Turkish Cypriot, several generations settled
  • Kurdish families from Turkey
  • British-born, and people who came to study or work
  • Divorced and widowed guests, welcomed openly

Where people come from

  • North London – Haringey, Enfield, Hackney
  • Essex and Hertfordshire
  • Birmingham and the Midlands
  • Manchester and the North
  • Anywhere with no local community to search

How the evening runs

  • You apply. Around ten minutes. Background, language, practice, work, and what you are looking for in a spouse.
  • A person reads it. Every application individually, free-text box included.
  • Matching runs once. After registration closes, the whole list is matched together rather than in the order people applied.
  • Invitations go out. Venue and timings by email. Numbers are kept even between men and women.
  • On the night. Supervised, structured introductions, with a separate lounge for guardians.

Questions about these events

Does the event run in Turkish?

English, with Turkish spoken freely in the room. If language at home matters to you, put it on the form so it can be part of the matching.

Will I run into people I know?

Possible in a community this size, and not a problem – everyone there applied for the same reason. If there is someone in particular you would rather not be matched with, tell us on the form and it will be taken into account. Nothing about who attends is ever published.

I am Turkish Cypriot. Is this the right event?

Yes. Turkish Cypriot guests are a normal part of these rooms. If it matters to you whether someone is Cypriot or mainland, say so on the form as a preference.

I am Kurdish. Is this the right event?

Yes. Kurdish guests from Turkey apply to these events, and background is one of the things the form asks about so matching can take it into account either way.

Can a guardian come with me?

Yes – one guardian per female guest, waiting in a separate lounge with refreshments and welcome to join at the end. Note it on the form so the room is planned for it.
